Our Analysis of the Competition’s Partnerships Uncovers a Dangerous Threat to a Key Supplier Relationship

Client:  Replacement Meat Manufacturer

Service: Supplier Intelligence, Analysis of External Partnerships

Geography: Europe, North America, China

Problem & Objective

For its R&D strategy review our client needed to understand its competitors’ external partnerships, their strategic purpose, and any opportunities or threats the partnerships might present.  Intelligentsia was briefed to research these topics.

Research Challenge

The Replacement Meat market is dynamic, competitive and quite secretive.  The geographic scope of the research was extensive covering Europe, North America and China.

The Resolution

Intelligentsia’s OSINT researchers uncovered a certain amount of information about RM manufacturers’ external partners, but there were a lot of gaps that we had to fill in by talking to market experts and competitors’ current and former staff.

Intelligentsia’s research identified which manufacturers were forging strategic R&D partnerships and JVs/JDAs to explore new plant-based technology platforms and ingredients.  We also uncovered a specific threat to one of our client’s key external partnerships.

The Result

The client was very pleased with our survey of its competitors’ external partnerships and our insights into their strategic purpose, which were used in the strategy review process.  Our client was alarmed by the threat to one of its key partnerships and it has taken steps to protect the relationship.
